Fireworks Definitions
Barrage - a combination of several fireworks, usually a group of roman candles designed to be fired simulatanously with a single ignition
Brazilian Fireworks - brazilian type fireworks are usually characterized by very bright colours, loud reports and high effects
Comet - a pressed or solid pyrotechnic material that produces a stream of sparks or fire (tail effect) as it is elevated
Cake - a series of tube type effects lit with a single fuse initiating the sequence, mostly shells, mines, and / or comets that produces varying effects
Chrysanthemum shell - emits its stars in a circle pattern and the brightness intensifies as the circle grows in size creating a simulation of a flower
Concussion Mortar or Concussion Pot - a heavily fortified container filled with pyrotechnic material (similar to a vertical cannon barrel) that produces an extremely loud band with a shockwave effect.
Flame projector or Flame Pot - a tube that produces varying heights and duration of a flame column. a commonly seen effect at rock concerts.
Pyrotechnician or Special Effects Pyrotechnician - A person trained and Licensed to handle and use pyrotechnics,
Flash Pot - smallest of the pot devices, filled with pyrotechnic material that produces a flash of bright light or column of sparkles.
Fountain - an outdoor ground level fireworks class effect that produces a spray of sparks or crackles. a consumer class fireworks term for a gerb.
Gerb - a short heavy tube filled with pyrotechnic composition that produces a jet or spray of sparks , may be coloured or have a strobing effect. special variations for indoor or outdoor use.
Lance - a special class of gerb, long burning briliant tip, typically used for creation of a “lance board”. lances are laid out on a ridgid form to draw shapes, logo's or letters.
Mine -a ground level eruption of effects into the air. (as in military "land-mine")
Multi break shell - An aerial shell comprising more than one section producing a separate effect in sequence and ignited by the bursting of the preceding section. The public may incorrectly refer to a "shell of shells" as a multi break effect.
Peony - A typical Japanese style of shell similar to the chrysanthimum but does not leave a trail of sparks
Punk - A slow burning stick for lighting small fireworks, similar to unscented incense.
Report - a very loud crack or boom, also referred to as a salute. or sound shell
Roman Candle - a single tube that produces a timed series of between 5 and 12 comets or stars.
Sparkler - a metal wire dipped in pyrotechnic material that produces sparks (can reach up to 2000 degrees farenheit)
Shell or Mortar Shell -a ball or cylinder filled with varying compositions, that is projected to a designated height before exploding , releasing the interior effects. (as in a military "artillery shell")
Stars - small balls of material that project from aerial shells, mine or roman candles that provides a stream of light and color as it burns.
Waterfall - an elevated line of inverted gerbs, that produce line of falling sparks.
Water (Aquatic) Shell - A shell designed to function on the surface of water (e.g. a lake) producing a hemisphere of stars
Wheel - an effect consisting of drivers (gerbs) around a pivot point producing a spinning show of sparks.
Willow or Palm - an aerial effect that gives an extra long burning time which creates bright amber falling streaks, simulating the form of a weeping willow tree
Whistle - a small tube filed with pyrotechnic composition that when ignited produces a loud screaming or whistle noise from a small hole
